Whenever teams are formed in organisations they fall within two particular types. The "formal" team is the department or section created within a recognised structure to pursue specific goals. "Informal" teams are created to deal with a particular situation: their members have fewer fixed organisational relationships and they disband after fulfilling their function (e.g. Bid Teams).
In either sense all teams share certain features and these can be broadly described as follows:
Shared
or agreed common goals
A
common working "language" or protocols
The
ability to manage relationships as well as tasks.
Similarly, the balance of the personalities and their preferred team roles will also influence team performance. Carlton Stewart offer a range of programmes designed to accelerate the stages of team development and individual contribution through the achievement of agreed team strategies.
The design of each team development programme would naturally be bespoke to the team and organisation in question, but typically might include the following:
Team
Members and Leaders undertake initial audit to identify potential issues and
blockages to development
Team
Leaders attend Team Leadership Module - learning to influence and build co-operation
across multi-discipline teams
Teams
meet in facilitated event to determine "Content" (Strategy, Aims and
Objectives) & "Process" (Team Protocols, Values and Behaviours)
Team
performance is monitored over time – against Content and Process measures,
by observation and feedback
Formal
team review takes place in alignment with Team Objectives / Strategy.
